Networked Journalism: San Francisco

KQED Public Radio recruited its “News Associates” not only to provide story links for the public radio station’s home page, but also to help cover local news and provide on-air news reports.

By November 2012, the number of partners had grown from 5 to 8, and they had provided 62 on-air reports in the 15 months since the project launched.

In the process of building the partnerships, however, the station had to address some advocacy concerns that forced it to make its News Associates criteria narrower than expected.
