The Charlotte Observer had grown its partnership from 5 to 18 community blogs and news outlets as of November 2012.
Unlike most of the other project sites, The Observer built its network to help it secure free content for its print editions. Most of the other Net-J partners shared links, but The Observer was unique among Net-J partners in the structure and limits it placed around sharing full articles.
The network’s visibility was boosted in early 2011 when the Charlotte News Alliance finally got some sharp real estate on the paper’s home page that helped to drive traffic back to its partners.
