June 17, 2011 at 9 a.m.  |  Orlando, FL

Professional journalists are increasingly launching news websites in communities across the country. Learn from two Latina journalists who are running their own successful sites.

Are you ready to launch a local news startup? Or do you want to grow an existing site? This session will offer ten tips on how to be a successful news entrepreneur.

J-Lab has seeded dozens of hyperlocal news sites in recent years, mentored those publishers and reported on their achievements.

Executive director Jan Schaffer will lead a discussion with Lydia Chavez of Mission Local in Oakland, CA., and Ana Acle-Menendez of West Kendall Today outside of Miami. The three will explore what it takes to run a site of your own and offer advice and resources to help you before, during and after launch.
