In Pittsburgh, the Post-Gazette decided to focus its Net-J project on one subject: drilling for natural gas in the Marcellus Shale, the sedimentary rock that snakes underneath most of the state. It launched the Pipeline website on Feb. 27, 2011 with five unconventional partners, including a documentary filmmaker and a blog on Rust Belt economies.
