Networked Journalism: Asheville

The Asheville Citizen-Times got off to a strong start on building tools and recruiting partners for a network of news sites in the Blue Ridge Mountains dubbed the Western North Carolina Local Information Cooperative (WNC LINC).

But no sooner did the original project managers leave with the end of their first-year contracts than communication with the 10 partners slowed and the project lost its momentum – amid significant upheaval in this Gannett newsroom.

Early on, the project developed ways to make the partnership visible via a widget advertising partner headlines and a project blog.
