Describe your project and why you're entering it.

For journalists, citizen journalists and independent-minded, socially and globally aware readers around the world who need a new, socially-connected, real-time platform for reporting and journalism, MaYoMo is a “social news network” for journalists and their readers that empowers a new era of Internet news creation and distribution. Unlike other sources of world news, MaYoMo delivers independent, global news content with Web 2.0 convenience and flexibility while providing an income source and/or career path for both journalists and citizen journalists.
Numerous trends are converging today that point the way forward for MaYoMo; 1) print publications are shutting their doors in record numbers, 2) traditional journalists are losing their jobs (also in record numbers) and seeking new career paths, which journalism students question what the future holds for them, 3) all of society is getting “greener” and the era of newspapers seems very short-lived, 4) video/multimedia content dominates our society, and today’s news and information must be presented in these formats to remain relevant and interesting, and 5) our world is shrinking quickly, and most of us consider ourselves “world citizens” with a thirst for global news and information - delivered in an interesting and convenient format.
In this environment MaYoMo is emerging to become a solution to solve these problems and step up to meet the challenge of these fast emerging trends. We believe MaYoMo deserves strong consideration as a truly pioneering advancement in the future of journalism.

What makes this a good example of innovative journalism? For instance, does it involve new forms of information sharing or new storytelling models? Does it offer new reader participation opportunities or involve new uses of technologies?

MaYoMo supports content from all leading media types and from various platforms, including: text, audio, video, SMS, IM, blogging, mobile capabilities, social networking, and more.  Now, citizen journalists can report from every corner of the globe via the medium and the platform that suits them. MaYoMo has also developed integration feeds from Facebook, RSS and Twitter.

Perhaps most importantly, MaYoMo’s highly unique and entrepreneurial “news channel approach,” allows professional, amateur and student journalists to create and manage their own custom news channel, unleashing new career and income opportunities via the company’s shared advertising revenue model.  These individuals, who may be unemployed or underemployed or simply journalism enthusiasts, can now easily create the news or information business of their choosing, focusing on the topics, geography, focus, reach, media type and audience of their choosing.

How were new information ideas or technologies used to spur nontraditional interactions with audiences or involve or educate people in new ways?

-MaYoMo is unique among citizen journalism websites, with powerful features such as:
a.  News Demand - the ability to customer order news in advance that meets your criteria
b.  Virtu - virtual countries on the site about news regarding community of interest topics, such as Star Trek, Warcraft, etc.
c.  Map Branding - an intuitive and innovative map-based navigation schema
d.  Timeline - the ability to go back or forward in time to navigate news and information
e.  Hot Spots - another innovative feature that highlights for readers the areas of the world where breaking news is happening.
