Citizen Media
J-Lab’s Citizen Media Work
Top-down news is very last century. Community residents around the country are launching hyperlocal blogs and Web sites to report on micro news in their communities. Newspapers and television stations are rolling out the red carpet for user-generated content. Radio stations have realized they need more than call-ins, contests and commentaries to engage the people formerly known as the audience.
J-Lab has helped to fund 40 community news start-ups since 2005 through the Knight-funded New Voices program.
